Part of the year 1 curriculum is to understand and learn to use contractions (I am becomes I'm, should have becomes should've etc). This is very trick for year 1 children so we tend to introduce it through the game Pairs.
In DT the children tried out different fruits they could put into a smoothie. They also tried combining flavours. Some of their reactions were classic!

The children came back from break to find a picnic blanket, a picnic basket, a bucket and spade, a blue scarf and an old bear in the middle of the class room! We spoke about where the bear might have come from and how old we think it could be. As luck would have it we had our own teddy bears in the classroom so we made labels for them in case they ever get lost!
